Already feeling that back to school lunch boredom? It doesn’t take long after summer vacation ends to start feeling uninspired when it comes to packing lunches for your kids. To help put a little excitement back into bagged lunches, I’ve put together five fresh ideas that are not only a departure from the typical lunchbox meal, but will also give your kids that energy boost they need to get through the rest of the school day.

Lunch #1
Because every kid loves pasta

Ingredients:
Pasta salad composed of pasta shape of choice
Roasted chicken, ham, or turkey
Chopped tomatoes
Steamed broccoli
Parsley, parmesan cheese, olive oil, & salt
Orange segments
Yogurt of choice

Lunch # 2
Taco Tuesday

Ingredients:
Soft tortilla
Sliced turkey or roast beef
Shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato & cilantro
A side of rice and beans
Apple slices
Milk

Lunch #3
Breakfast for Lunch

Ingredients:
Cheesy omelet (wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla wrap or with a side roasted sweet potatoes)
Side salad
Strawberries
Yogurt of choice

Lunch #4
The Classic

Ingredients:
Sandwich with sunflower seed butter and all fruit jam on whole wheat bread
OR egg salad and lettuce on whole wheat bread.
Edamame
Banana
Milk

Lunch #5
Mediterranean Platter

Ingredients:
Crackers or Pita Bread
A Dip, like hummus or guacamole
Vegetable sticks, like celery, peppers, and cucumbers
Grapes
Cheese, like feta or cheddar cubes
Hard boiled egg

I put these lunch ideas together because they’re fun, full of things that are nutritious, and, most importantly, my kids eat them. As always, feel free to substitute one item for another as long as you keep the following things in mind:

The meal is balanced with protein, carb, fruit, vegetable, & milk
Your kid will eat it!

Enjoy!
